First-hand reviews of best-selling hiking boots, hiking shoes, & trail running shoes
Hiking Feet helps you find the best footwear for your hikes with first-hand reviews of best-selling hiking boots and shoes. Hiking more than 15,000 miles the past two decades, Editor Jory Brass has personally worn and tested the following brands: adidas TERREX, Altra, Asolo, Brooks, Columbia, Danner, Hi-Tec, HOKA, KEEN, La Sportiva, LOWA, Merrell, Nortiv8, Oboz, On, Salomon, Scarpa, Topo Athletic, and Vasque. Based on his personal hiking experience and his outdoor industry experience, he picks the most promising hiking boots, hiking shoes, and trail running shoes at different price points for in-depth reviews.
Jory personally weighs each pair he tests and then runs it through a gauntlet of test hikes to evaluate its (1) support, (2) weight, (3) fit, (4) comfort, (5) weather protection, (6) traction, and (7) value. Full reviews are based on hundreds of miles of personal hiking experience. Preliminary reviews (usually for brand-new boots and shoes) are based on a miniumum of fifty miles of testing. Last year alone, I hiked 1400 miles, testing 20 pairs on trails in the Rockies and Appalachian mountains.
This site does not post sponsored content or accept free merchandise in exchange for positive reviews. In most cases, I've bought the boots and shoes I review for personal use. In select cases, I will reach out to brands to request a promising pair to review with the explicit understanding that I will only recommend footwear that passes my tests. Occasionally, brands (typically budget brands) will send me samples—which I won't review or recommend unless it's a boot or shoe that's worthwhile. The reviews below are 100% independent and rooted in my personal hiking experience and my profesional experience as the footwear manager at Appalachian Outdoors and Gearhead® Expert at Backcountry, the leading outdoor specialty retailer.
