The La Sportiva Prodigio Hike LT GTX is one of the few lightweight hiking boots that's up to more technical trails. This new (2026) version swaps the sock-like ankle collar of the original Prodigio Hike GTX for a mid-cut that mixes synthetic mesh with leather ("LT" = leather). I've personally tested La Sportiva's latest hiking boot while hiking almost 40 miles of moderate and difficult trails in New Mexico. My La Sportiva Prodigio Hike LT review gives you the lowdown on its support, weight, comfort, fit, traction, weather protection, and overall value.

La Sportiva Prodigio Hike LT GTX Review
My first-hand review of the La Sportiva Prodigio Hike LT GTX is based on 38 miles of test hikes with more than 12,000 feet of elevation gain. (This is the new leather ("LT") version of the La Sportiva Prodigio hiking boot—not to be confused with the regular Prodigio Hike GTX or the Prodigio trail running shoes). My test hikes included La Luz (9 mile, 4500 ft), Embudito (8 mile 2700 ft), Pino (6 mile 1500 ft), Domingo Baca (shortened by bear encounter), and two hikes on the Piedra Lisa Trail (4.5 mile 1200'). These moderate to difficult mountain trails include steep and slick sections, which let me evalate this boot's strenghts and limits.
As always, my reviews are based on my first-hand testing experience and my professional experience in the outdoor industry. I'm the former footwear manager at a hiking and backpacking shop in the U.S. and test hiking boots/shoes more than 1000 miles every year. You can trust my professional reviews and recommendations.

Support
The La Sportiva Prodigio Hike LT prioritizes weight savings over support, but it also provides more ankle protection than the original Prodigio Hike GTX hiking boot. While the original Prodigio Hike has a mesh sock around the ankles (no ankle support), the Prodigio Hike LT has a mid-cut ankle collar with some leather ("LT") for added support. That said, the La Sportiva Nucleo High II is a better hiking boot for ankle support.
On the trail, I didn't have any foot or ankle problems while testing the mesh + leather version of the Prodigio Hike. That's significant since my ankles aren't great, and I mostly hike mountain trails. At the same time, support isn't this boot's strength. It's lighter and more flexible than the best hiking boots for ankle support. For me, the leather pays off more in foot protection (e.g. cactus spines) than in protection against ankle sprains.
My Prodigio HIke LT weighs 2 lb 6 oz/pair (men's size 13)
Weight
Weight-wise, the La Sportiva Prodigio Hike LT is lighter than the average men's hiking boot (2.5-3 lbs/pair) but 3-4 ounces (per pair) heavier than my favorite lightweight hiking boots. My pair weighs 2 lbs 6 oz (men's size 13).
For comparison, my go-to lightweight hiking boot is the Topo Athletic Trailventure 2 (2 lb 3 oz). The HOKA Anacapa 2 is a similar lightweight, leather/ mesh hiking boot that weighs 3 ounces less. At the same time, the Prodigio Hike LT GTX still felt fairly light and athletic during my field tests.
The Prodigio Hike LT is not as narrow as most La Sportivas
Fit
The Prodigio Hike LT has a wide fit for a La Sportiva—a brand typically known for its narrow fit. This means it has a more standard width but may run slightly small (by US standards):
- Hikers with average-width feet should size up at least a 1/2 size for hiking
- If you love La Sportivas because you have narrow feet, you might be disappointed by this boot's roomier fit.
- If you have wide feet (like me), you may (or may not) get enough width by sizing up one full size or more.
As a hiker with wide feet, I get a good hiking fit in the La Sportiva Prodigio Hike LT by sizing up 1.5 sizes (US) from my everyday shoe size.
Well-cushioned soles kept my feet comfortable on this 6-mile test hike
Comfort
If this boot fits you, there's a good chance you'll find it comfortable—especially if you prefer a lightweight hiking boot with good cushioning. Even though it's not ultralight, the Prodigio Hike LT felt fast and athletic on my test hikes, especially my faster, midweek fitness hikes up and down the Pino and Piedra Lisa trails.
The Prodigio Hike LT features the "supercritical foam" found in running supershoes (but without the carbon plate of most supershoes). This means this boot's cushioning is lightweight and soft yet responsive. I prefer this cushioning to the HOKA Anacapa 2, which is a similar hiking boot. After a sustained and often rocky ascent of La Luz Trail (9.2 miles and 4,500 feet of climbing), my feet still felt fairly fresh in the Prodigio Hike LT. If you prefer more feel than float, however, you might pick a stiffer, less cushy La Sportiva.
Testing waterproofing with 1-hour submersion test
Weather Protection
If you prefer a waterproof hiking boot, the La Sportiva Prodigio Hike LT GTX features GORE-TEX waterproofing. This PFAS-free GORE-TEX ePE is both waterproof and breathable (in spite of what online trolls claim).
With New Mexico mired in an historic drought, I could only test the waterproofing at home—not in the field. I weighted down my test pair with rocks and submerged it in water for one hour. After the one-hour submersion, I couldn't see or feel any water inside the Prodigio Hike LT that had penetrated the GORE-TEX membrane. Keep in mind that the last two times I've done this home waterproofing test, the non-GORE-TEX footwear I tested was soaking wet inside.
La Sportivas almost always have great traction on rock
Traction
One of the best reasons to buy La Sportivas is traction. As one of the best climbing shoe brands, La Sportiva uses high-grip rubber that usually excels on rock. That's what I found to be true with the Prodigio Hike LT hiking boot. I had no trouble hiking the smoothest slickrock boulders in Embudito Canyon, and this boot absolutely crushes it on rough rock surfaces. For the first time, I could down-climb an extremely steep off-trail slab in my Prodigios without getting down on all fours or butt-scooting my way down the weathered granite.
I also tested my Prodigio Hike LTs on steep switchbacks with loose sand, gravel, and scree. The tread didn't stand out as much as it did on solid rock, but it still did a solid job going up and down rock covered in loose gravel. Overall, this lightweight hiking boot has great traction for mountainous trails and off-trail scrambling.
I like the red colorway of the women's Prodigio Hike LT
Value
The La Sportiva Prodigio Hike LT retails for $200 full price. Compare to other lightweight hiking boots I recommend, that's similar to the HOKA Anacapa 2 Mid GTX ($195), $15 more than the Topo Athletic Trailventure 2 ($185), $10 less than the Oboz Katabatic LT Mid GTX ($210), and $60 less than its sibling, the La Sportiva Nucleo High II GTX ($259). Given its high performance, I consider $200 a good price compared to its most obvious competition.

Pros & Cons of the La Sportiva Prodigio Hike LT GTX
Should hikers buy the La Sportiva Prodigio Hike LT?
The La Sportive Prodigio Hike LT GTX is a high-performance hiking boot, especially if you're a fast hiker with a light pack. With its excellent rock traction, the Prodigio Hike LT may be my favorite lightweight hiking boot for more technical mountain trails, even though it's not the lightest hiking boot in my gear closet. It's not the best hiking boot for support, but the Prodigio Hike LT otherwise ranks high across the board after several tough test hikes. I'll be adding it to my list of the best lightweight hiking boots, if not my list of the best hiking boots overall. This is one of the few hiking boots I'll keep wearing well after I'm done testing and reviewing it.
If the Prodigio Hike LT seems like a promising match for your feet and your hikes, please consider purchasing your new pair by clicking on the buttons below. That's free for you but sends a few bucks my way (only if you buy something). Those small commissions keep this site alive and make it possible for me to review new boots and shoes each year.
