Best Hiking Shoes for Narrow Feet 2025

Jory, hikingfeet.com

Several of the best hiking shoes and best trail running shoes for hikers have narrow fits. I know that personally—each of the shoes that I recommend below have squeezed the outsides of my feet or squashed my toes. What are the best hiking shoes for narrow feet? Based on my personal hiking experience and my professional experience managing footwear at Appalachian Outdoors, the best hiking shoes for narrow feet are the

  • Salewa Pedroc Air
  • Salomon Speedcross 6
  • adidas TERREX Free Hiker 2
  • Salomon X Ultra 5
  • Salewa Mountain Trainer Lite

Sadly, the comfy adidas TERREX Free Hiker 2 pinches my feet even after sizing up one full size

Best Hiking Shoes for Narrow Feet

SALEWA PEDROC AIR

Ultralight Hiking Shoe for Narrow Feet

Main Benefits:

  • Feather-light for fast-moving hikes
  • Ventilated mesh for hot and dry climates
  • Good tread for mountain terrain
  • Trail to town versatility
  • Narrower than average fit

The lightest shoe on this list, the Salewa Pedroc Air is made for fast-moving hikers in hot climates. Its welterweight build keeps your light on your feet, and its perforated mesh wears cooler on your feet. That's a nice blend of features for my desert day hikes and fast hikes on well-groomed trails. Plus, this is a bad-ass hiking shoe for everyday wear, too. Like most Italian brands, Salewas run narrow by US standards. This Pedroc pinches the outsides of my feet, but it's a sweet, welterweight hiking shoe for narrow feet.

Salomon X Ultra 5

Overall Best Hiking Shoe for Narrow Feet

Main Benefits:

  • Lightweight yet supportive
  • Tapered toe boxes favor narrower feet
  • GORE-TEX waterproofing
  • climbing and braking lugs dig into mud & scree

Newly updated for 2025, the Salomon X Ultra 5 is arguably the best overall hiking shoe on the market. That's good news for hikers with narrow feet since Salomon's tapered toe boxes run narrower than most brands'. The X Ultra 5 stands out for its unique mix of stability and agility. It's sturdy enough for tough hikes yet light enough for fast hikers, too. I've owned several pairs of X Ultras over the years and see them as one of the most versatile hiking shoes on the market.

ADIDAS TERREX FREE HIKER 2

Best Casual Hiking Shoe for Narrow Feet

Main Benefits:

  • Highly cushioned shoe leans into comfort
  • Sneaky-supportive
  • Premium GORE-TEX waterproofing
  • Standard to narrow fit

The Free Hiker 2 is the most comfortable hiking shoe for casual hikers. Stealing the BOOST foam from adidas's best running shoes, the Free Hiker 2 has an extra-cushy feel that's ideal for groomed trails, travel, and everyday wear. It looks like a simple sneaker, but there a stability fork hidden inside for added support, too. Plus, there's durable and breathable GORE-TEX waterproofing and sophisticated color-ways. Sadly, this shoe fits too snug for me, but it's a decent fit for hikers with narrow feet. If you're looking for a high-performance, high-comfort hiking shoe for easier trails, it's tough to beat the Free Hiker 2.

SALEWA MOUNTAIN TRAINER LITE GTX

Serious Hiking Shoe for Narrow Feet

Main Benefits:

  • highly supportive and protective
  • durable and breathable GORE-TEX
  • Great grip on rocks
  • Good fit for narrow feet

Salewas slay technical trails with their grippy rubber outsoles. These are stiff, sturdy, and protective hiking shoes that are made for alpine hikes, so I mostly wear mine for rocky trails with plenty of rock scrambling. Salewas run narrow, making the Mountain Trainer Lite one of the best arrow hiking shoes for serious hikers who need great grip and support.

SALOMON SPEEDCROSS

Best Trail Running Shoe for Narrow Feet

Main Benefits:

  • great stability and agility for fast & light hikes
  • deep, widely spaced lugs excel in mud
  • quick-lace for convenience
  • Salomon's narrowest fit

The Speedcross is Salomon's narrowest trail running shoe and a long-time best seller. It feels firm yet fast underfoot with widely spaced lugs designed to dig into mud and snow. This Speedcross also features a snug fit that you can dial in with Salomon's Sensifit uppers and quicklace system. The Speedcross 6 is available in waterproof-breathable GORE-TEX (GTX) or non-waterproof ($20 less). If you've got narrow feet and want aggressive traction for soft trails, this light-weight trail runner could be the best fit for your (narrow) feet and best match for your (muddy) hikes.
