Mammut Hiking Shoes Guide: What’s YOUR Best Shoe?

Jory, hikingfeet.com

Over the past three years, I've personally tested and reviewed most of the Mammut hiking shoes. The Swiss brand is best known for climbing ropes and avalanche gear. But I've found Mammut's hiking shoes better than expected. The hard part is knowing which of the brand's shoes makes the most sense for where and how you hike. That's why I created this Mammut hiking shoes guide for men and women.

2026 Mammut Hiking Shoes

I've personally tested and reviewed three Mammut hiking shoes and two Mammut trail running shoes while hiking 1000+ miles each year testing footwear. Here's my first-hand guide to the best Mammut hiking shoes:

  • Best Lightweight Mammut Hiking Shoe: Aenergy Hike GTX
  • Most Popular Mammut Hiking Shoe: Ducan III
  • Best Mammut Hiking Shoe for Serious Hikers: Sertig III
  • Best Mammut Trail Runner for Hikers: Aenergy Trail Endurance Ultra

BEST LIGHTWEIGHT MAMMUT HIKING SHOE

Mammut Aenergy Hike Low

The Aenergy Hike Low is the best Mammut hiking shoe for those who prefer a lightweight, well-cushioned hiker. I hiked some difficult mountain trails in my test pair, but this shoe's better for faster hikers on groomed trails. Its thick midsoles also provide a comfort boost if you prefer a more cushioned ride. Move this shoe to the top of your Mammut list if prioritize weight savings, cushioning, and fun colorways that pop on the trail.

MOST POPULAR MAMMUT HIKING SHOE

Mammut Ducan III Low GTX

At least in the US, the Ducan is the Mammut hiking shoe you're most likely to find at REI, Backcountry, and outdoor specialty shops. Available in either a synthetic or leather version, the Ducan III features reliable GORE-TEX waterproofing and grippy Vibram outsoles. Surprisingly, it's more flexible (and less supportive) than the average hiking shoe despite weighing a bit above average. If you prefer a more flexible hiking shoe, you may like the Mammut Ducan III for easy to moderate day hikes.

Best Mammut Hiking Shoe

Mammut Sertig III Low

If you mostly hike moderate to hard trails, the Sertig III gets my vote as Mammut's best hiking shoe. Similar to best-selling Salomons, the Mammut Sertig III is both lightweight and supportive (the opposite of the Ducan above). Plus, it features waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX and outsoles that excel on rocky mountain terrain. After testing 25 hiking shoes this year, the Mammut Sertig III is the one I keep coming back to for my own day hikes.

Best Mammut Trail Running Shoe for Hikers

Mammut Aenergy Trail Endurance Ultra

I've found that trail running shoes made for ultramarathoners often work well as hiking shoes. That's the case with the Mammut Aenergy Trail Endurance Ultra. I've enjoyed hiking in this trail runner on my mid-week training hikes and fast-moving fitness hikes. This shoe's heavy on cushioning and light on weight. Thanks to its Vibram Megagrip soles, the Trail Endurance Ultra's tread also impressed me on mixed mountain terrain. For hikers, this is the best Mammut trail running shoe I've tested.

Should you buy Mammut hiking shoes?

Mammut isn't a big name in outdoor footwear, but its hiking shoes have mostly impressed me. It's a good brand for hikers with narrow feet. Or—if you have wide feet (like me)—you can size up extra to get a roomier fit (without your feet slipping around, thanks to the brand's snug fit in the heel). The key is buying the best Mammut hiking shoe for the type of hiking you do most of the time. This guide should help you with that choice.
