I know first-hand that it can be a struggle finding hiking boots for wide feet. I have wide feet and have hiked 17,000 miles the past fiften years testing a range of hiking boots and hiking shoes. Many of the 50+ models I've tested and reviewed squashed my toes or pinched the outsides of my feet. But I've also found through personal experience which brands have wide fits—and which best brands offer their best sellers in wide sizes. In 2026, the best hiking boots for wide feet are the Topo Athletic Trailventure 2, Merrell Moab 3, Altra Olympus 6 HIKE, KEEN Targhee IV, Oboz Bridger (in wide), KEEN Durand II, and LOWA Renegade EVO GTX (wide sizes available).

Best Hiking Boots for Wide Feet
TOPO ATHLETIC TRAILVENTURE 2
Best Lightweight Hiking Boot with Wide Toe Box
Main Benefits:
The Topo Athletic Trailventure 2 is made for fastpackers and day hikers who want a lightweight hiking boot with a wide toe box. I've personally owned three pairs of Trailventures and wore them when I won top hiker at Backcountry's Summer Adventure Challenge. This boot is wide where you need it—in the forefoot and toe box—and made to move quickly over moderate terrain. I've found the Zipfoam midsoles cushy yet responsive, and its Vibram rubber outsoles have given me solid traction on most surfaces. This is a lightweight hiking boot, so it's ankle support is only so-so. But the the Topo Trailventure's wide fit has made it my go-to hiking boot for day hiking.

MERRELL MOAB 3 MID
Entry Level Hiking Boot for Wide Feet
Main Benefits:
The "world's best selling hiker," the Merrell Moab 3 has one of the widest fits on the market. Merrell's regular size is wide enough for my wide feet, and it also offers wide sizes for even more width. Merrell lovers love this entry-level hiking boot's roomy fit and "out of the box comfort" (which is a code word for limited ankle support). Performance-wise, the Moab is not the best choice for hardcore hikers. But fit-wise, it's one of the best hiking boots for wide feet. If you need a wide fit, the Merrell Moab 3 may be enough boot for beginners, the average day hiker, and people who wear hiking boots as everyday boots.

ALTRA OLYMPUS 6 HIKE MID GTX
Zero Drop Hiking Boot for Wide Feet
Main Benefits:
If you're a fan of "zero drop" footwear with wide toe boxes, you'll probably find the Altra Olympus 6 HIKE the best hiking boot for wide feet. Altra's signature hiking boot has removed the extra cushioning under the heel to encourage a more natural, fore-foot strike. It also feature's Altra's Footshape fit, which is extra-wide in the forefoot and toe box. If you rely upon hiking boots to provide more stability and support, stay clear of the Olympus 6 HIKE. If you want your feet—not your boots—to provide cushioning, stability, and support, this is the best zero drop hiking boot for wide feet.

KEEN TARGHEE IV MID
Day-Hiking Boot for Wide Feet
Main Benefits:
For the average day hiker, the KEEN Targhee IV is arguably the best hiking boot for wide feet. The Targhee IV is soft and cushioned underfoot with moderate support, traction, and durability. Targhees can handle moderate hikes and the occasional backpacking trip, but they're not the best choice for rugged hiking or backpacking. I've been wearing KEEN for more than 20 years now. KEEN's regular size is wide enough for my moderately wide feet, and the Targhee I is also available in wide sizes for extra width. When I managed footwear at Appalachian Outdoors, I sold heaps of Targhees to hikers with wide feet.

OBOZ BRIDGER
Best Midweight Hiking Boot for Wide Feet
Main Benefits:
The Oboz Bridger is a solid leather hiking boot that's available in a true wide. For me, Bridgers hit the sweet spot for support. They're sturdy enough for backpacking yet flexible enough for day hiking, too. I also like their traction on steep descents, where the boot's deep lugs and heel brake dig in to dirt, mud, snow, and scree. Plus, Oboz's upmarket insoles add cushioning and support where other brands skimp. I've personally hiked more than 2000 miles in the Oboz Bridger. The Oboz fit is snug in the heel and standard in the toes. However, Oboz offers the Bridger in a true wide, which has enough width for my wide feet.

KEEN DURAND II MID
KEEN's Most Supportive Hiking Boot
Main Benefits:
When I worked at Backcountry and Appalachian Outdoors, the KEEN Durand was my go-to pick for hikers with really wide feet who wanted a more supportive hiking boot. The Durand II is an upgrade in support and durability over the KEEN Targhee above. It's a well cushioned, waterproof, and supportive leather boot with KEEN's signature toe box providing good toe protection and wiggle room. If you need a wide fit and a wide toe box, this would be the best KEEN hiking boot for men and women who prefer harder day hikes and moderate backpacking trips.

Lowa Renegade Evo GTX — Wide
Best Backpacking Boot for Wide Feet
Main Benefits:
It's especially hard to find backpacking boots for wide feet. The LOWA Renegade is your best bet—IF you size up and buy it in wide. A best seller for 25 years, the Renegade is an iconic hiking and backpacking boot that boasts solid ankle support, waterproof-breathable GORE-TEX, and premium Vibram outsoles. New for 2025, the EVO version of the Renegade has a slightly roomier fit than the original, which is good news for hikers with wide feet. LOWA offers the best-selling Renegade EVO in narrow, standard, and wide sizes. BUT, its "wide" isn't as wide as most brands. I've personally owned 4 pairs of Renegades: The key is to buy them in wide and to size up a full size from your everyday shoe size.

How to buy hiking boots that fit your wide feet
If you're looking for hiking boots for wide feet you generally should European brands. Almost all European brands have narrow fits, especially Italian brands (Asolo, La Sportiva, Salewa, Scarpa). U.S. brands (Altra, Merrell, KEEN, Danner, Topo Athletic) generally have the widest fits. Several brands also offer their best-sellers in wide sizes, such as Altra, Oboz, LOWA, and Salomon.
Another pro tip is to size up extra to get more width in the forefoot and toe box. In some cases, sizing up one full size from your everyday shoe size can be the difference between a hiking boot that squeezes—or fits—your wide feet.
